Shopping has to be one of the most satisfying and benignly addictive indulgences anyone ever devised. But if you’re among the few people left in this wonderful nation who still has a job, it’s unnervingly easy to spend what you earn.

Drift into any store and browse through their stock and something will jump out at you and just demand to be bought. A few minutes at the register and a quick pass with a barcode scanner and the new trinket is yours.

And so is the bill.
