The votes are all counted, the bunting is gone and this glorious country is about to traverse yet another frontier as the first Western power to elect as their leader a man who is black. The intellectual eloquence embodied in this act is something of which you should all be boundlessly proud.

I only wish I could say the same for Prop. 8.

In a matter of weeks one man’s elevation to President of a country will set a lustrous precedent for the entire world. Yet the cognitive tolerance that enabled this feat has left over 10,000 people in a legal abyss. With Prop. 8’s demise, Massachusetts and Connecticut are the only states left where people who find love in a different way have the freedom and dignity to do as they please. The heartbreak this is causing must be beyond comprehension.

And not content with this selfish denial of personal choice the arrogant, judgmental bigots who invented Prop 8 are now preparing Court actions to destroy all the marriages that inspired their divisive crusade. The ACLU and several Gay Rights groups are engaged in defense but the fight could be hard, and the results a disaster. The voting is over and the battle is won…And still their opponents can’t say ‘Enough!’

With foreclosures in thousands, a debt in the trillions and the economy cratering worse by the day, you’d think sentient, seemingly rational people could find something better to do with their time.

After tossing it all over the schedules like a grenade with the pin taken out, Fox has finally borrowed the nerve to [effectively] kill-off the Brad Garrett vehicle, “Til Death.” It’s been pulled from the schedules, effective today, and is supposed to return after November’s sweeps. But I don’t recommend holding your breath.

Mr. Garrett is a good Actor. I can’t say I’d stand in line to witness his Hamlet, but he displayed more talent and timing in one scene of ‘Raymond’ than Mr. Romano presented in a season combined, and deserves better reward than a train-wreck like this. The plots were redundant, the neighbors repugnant and the corporate incompetence that made Fox unable to stick a pin in the schedule and stake that as its home was not just inept, it was fatal.

A sit-com is only as good as its writers, but if ten-percent of their gift ever makes it to air, it’s often fatally scarred by the twenty ‘Producers’ all the Nets seem determined to attach to each show.  A writer labors for hours to create their best work, then these prosaic drones who couldn’t ‘Produce’ gas after ten-pounds of Bush’s hold two-hundred meetings and ‘produce’ it to bits – And the resultant melange dooms that show to a grave. So the net buys a new one, and does the same thing!

And they can’t figure out why we’re all hooked on Tivo.

The recipe really is risibly simple. Talented cast + Unfettered Writers = Guaranteed Nielsen gold. And how to reach that Nirvana is equally clear: Don’t cancel the shows, can the ‘Producers.’ You’ll save yourselves millions and the percipient talent will hook viewers in droves. And just think how the sponsors will love you for that !

Politics is boring. American politics doubly so, as not being a Citizen means it’s purely a spectator sport. And one that, in this case has gone so far into extra innings someone should repay us with jail time at least.

But it seems even this endless snore-fest may boast a silver interior – If the Elephant wins, we lose all lose the Scarecrow.

Heidi Klum and her husband, Seal, have now joined an elite list of names who are ready to head for the ports if the GOP wins. Stephen Baldwin, Susan Sarandon [and presumably Tim?] and Michael Stipe of REM have already declared they’re set to depart. And Tina Fey has announced she’ll vacate the whole planet.

Sweet Lord, say it could be?? A sojourn by the rest could be endured with ease. But the absence of Heidi? Even the prospect should cause a parade. She spends ten years as an overpaid clothes-horse for the talents of others, and now thinks this bestows the right to hold court on the worth of contestants whose passion alone exceeds her IQ, to reach fame and success in a career she has never dared to attempt.

Four years without her. What did we do to deserve such largess? And she’d be gone before we all go Hi-Def. 1400+ days without that Teutonic nose scarring grooves in my plasma…It’s right about now I wake up and find it’s a dream.

The return of the GOP would be a disaster. But the truth of her absence would sweeten the pill.

This splendid Actor joins an impressive list of Hollywood’s elite who are determined to defeat this inexcusable attack on personal choice and freedom. The roll-call includes Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, Molly Ringwald, and a belated entry from Ellen DeGeneres.

If any of us lives long enough to see the end of this interminable election circus it would almost be sufficient reward for the pain we have suffered at the hands of the media to see this reprehensible attempt at intellectual censorship defeated, and the vociferous bigots who are its supporters vanquished and silenced forever. Eighteen months of coverage that resembled saturation bombing…and it all comes down to a lever.

On Tuesday you will all be entrusted with a task whose importance and consequence is almost immeasurable. Please don’t waste your vote.
