A wise man once said that only two things are certain in life – death and taxes. Sadly, that grows more true as the years progress. In the dawning days of 2012 it’s hard to find something you can truly count on. Even cars. The days of even being able to count on transport are in peril. A few years ago your car would start the first time like a goulds pump.

Those times are over. Quality like that just doesn’t get made.

Anyone who can solve this dilemma would be a rich man…Assuming they had the transport to get them to work.

Is this handheld heaven or hell?

Anyone who has a smart phone knows those things can take over your life. A dead battery can leave those who become truly addicted in fits as they face a day without their hand-held brain.

The most addictive of all phones, apart perhaps from the iPod, is the Blackberry, and the latest version – the blackberry tablet – promises to make its phone-based cousin look puny in its capacity to run and rule people’s lives. With a 7-inch screen and 32Gb of storage the addiction factor is going to be high.

Thanks, probably, to the influence of Hollywood a good cigar is perceived as a sign of success and refinement. But it’s not unknown for our leaders in D.C to be seen inublowing smoke rings, so perhaps that’s not always true.

The argument can still be made, though, that a well-made smoke like Dutch masters cigars adds a certain air of refinement to your overall look. Try sharing some at your next social event and see if this curious rule works for you.

The hard work, determination and skilled, unbending labor of those who came here before us built this country into the focus of envy felt by those not so blessed as to live here.

Today the nation is dealing with an economy weaker than most of us have ever known. But we’re not done yet. Not even close. Solid, well paid jobs like building, automobiles and motorhome repair made us great, and there lies the center of focus for any plan to regain our national strength.

Buy American, create jobs and soon enough we’ll find economic distress nowhere else but a newspaper’s files.

But all the power and potential is almost pointless unless you find the Tablet with the longest battery life. It’s too easy to judge that if your tablet closed down for lack of power it would do it in the middle of an important task so be careful when you make the choice – forget the pretty buttons and focus on keeping your work safe.

Go by battery life and you should be fine.

Summer fades, winter draws near

Sad though it is to reflect the Summer we’ve all shared and enjoyed is now in its final movement. The golden days of people wrapped in t-shirts and Carrera Sunglasses will soon fade to sweaters and boots and another year will glide towards a holiday ending.

So make the most of these last balmy days, guys – Winters can seem very long after such indulgent weeks.
