The Internet must not steal people’s jobs

The Internet is becoming one of the most pervasive and benignly addictive creations in modern times. When it first emerged in the late 80′s everyone had a dial-up connection, there were no smartphones or iPads and life was quite good.

Then the addiction set in – And the jobs went away.

Today everyone’s wired 24/7. Millions of texts are sent every day and people use everything from a cellphone to portable computers like hp netbooks to keep in touch with their lives.

The next stage seems to be connected TV’s. And they could do the same damage to the DVD rental business as texting has no doubt caused to phone company revenues. And that’s not good for jobs.

The web has undoubtedly enhanced all our lives, but when it drags household-names to the brink of bankruptcy we need some ideas. Those firms at risk need new ways to manage the threat or the inevitable layoffs could cripple the recovery we’re now told we are in.

Is America ready for a female CEO?

This month’s changes in Congress ended what was one of the most historic duets in the nation’s existence – When the first black President took charge of a House controlled by the first female Speaker it was a momentous day.

Some say we’re now on course to gain our first female President; Perhaps even a minor celebrity from colder places up north. It’s certain that once Ms. Pelosi broke through the figurative glass tile of the Capitol’s ceiling, anything was possible.

But it is devoutly to be wished that it might not include this glorious country being governed by that…

Now is the Winter our disposal got bent

As an average Summer in this part of the nation can reach 120”F, the crisp days of winter are almost a relief. But our household appliances rarely agree.

If anything is going to break down, this is usually when it chooses for maximum effect. And getting service is close to impossible because everyone else has appliances that suddenly need repairs.

And so the great season is finally over. The presents have all been unwrapped [and some of them broken,] the turkey’s devoured and life can finally be restored to a more normal pace.

Every year you swear you’re going to do it right this time and every year is a mad, last minute rush to catch up. Choosing gifts is a challenge and sending Christmas Party Invitations is often just as hard. So as January unrolls before us it might be wise to plan ahead – and make next year actually fun…
